Huge milestone in digital nature conservation!
After five years of intensive work and pioneering commitment, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is making history by becoming the first European country to use Digitize the Planet’s innovative data standard. By the end of this year, all leisure-related data will be fully integrated into the Digitize-Platform – https://content.digitizetheplanet.org/en/ – a major step forward for digital nature conservation and the future of sustainable leisure.
This groundbreaking event marks a significant step forward not only for Luxembourg, but also for the entire European digital and nature conservation community and calls on other countries to follow suit and support Digitize the Planet politically and financially.
Statement by Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism on membership of the Digitze the Planet e.V. association:
‘Active tourism plays a central role in Luxembourg’s tourism industry: around two thirds of our guests go hiking or cycling. By entering our nature conservation data into the Digitize the Planet database and making it available on digital outdoor platforms, as well as through our membership of Digitize the Planet, we are making an active contribution to more sustainable tourism in Luxembourg. If guests are informed about sensitive areas such as nature reserves as early as the planning phase, they can adapt their behaviour accordingly – which benefits both the environment and contributes to a positive local experience.’
