Digitization of 274 wildlife rest areas – a success story from Graubünden
At the invitation of the Association of Swiss Tourism Managers (VSTM), we were able to present our project at an event in Chur 2023.
There we met with initial interest from the destination Graubünden Ferien. We then had several meetings with the responsible and energetic sustainability manager Martina Hollenstein Stadler.
As the data on wildlife rest areas in particular is highly relevant for the outdoor canton of Graubünden, destinations from Graubünden, the Office for Hunting and Fishing and the Office for Agriculture and Geoinformation agreed to enter the necessary data into the platform on the initiative of Graubünden Ferien.
Within just three weeks, the data on the 274 wildlife rest areas in the canton of Graubünden was successfully transferred to our Digitize-Platform. This fast, efficient and well-coordinated approach shows how important good cooperation between tourism organizations and authorities can be for nature conservation.
The next step will be to integrate the data for the remaining protected area categories in Q1/2025.
Together with Digitize the Planet, Graubünden Ferien has also enlisted the service provider discover.swiss (service platform for Swiss tourism) to include this protected area data in its data hub, further increasing the visibility of and access to this important information.
DMOs can play a very important role for us in their cross-sectional function.
Become another best practice for nature conservation with your DMO and cooperate with us.
As of 1 January 2025, Graubünden Ferien is now an official member of Digitize the Planet – a significant step towards even more sustainable tourism and more effective nature conservation, supported by the power of data-driven action.
