Digital Ranger wins 2nd place at the ADAC “Tourism Oscar” in Bavaria
As a member of the project consortium, we are very proud of this award and are pleased that we were able to make an important contribution to this success with our data platform for nature conservation-compliant rules of conduct in protected areas.
The Digital Ranger project is a practice-oriented research initiative that aims to explore and apply digital media as tools for nature conservation. The focus is on outdoor platforms, users seeking recreation in nature and nature conservation concerns – both inside and outside protected areas.
The increasing popularity of outdoor tourism and sports can be problematic for sensitive animal and plant species, especially when visitors either ignore or are unaware of nature conservation regulations. Often, the applicable rules are insufficiently communicated, making them difficult for sportspeople to understand.
The Digitize platform plays a crucial role in making nature conservation regulations available. It makes information that was previously difficult to access available digitally and integrates it seamlessly into the user’s outdoor experience.
The project partners are the sports ecology working group at the University of Bayreuth, Digitize the Planet e.V., Outdooractive, the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park, the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park and Treuchtlingen University of Applied Sciences. The project is financially supported by the VAUDE Sport Albrecht von Dewitz Foundation, the Upper Franconia Foundation and the Rainer Markgraf Foundation.
This award recognizes the importance of the Digital Ranger project for sustainable and nature-friendly tourism in Bavaria and beyond. It shows how digital solutions can effectively contribute to the harmonization of outdoor tourism and species conservation.
