Naturally. Digital. Sustainable

Tourism is increasingly facing two major changes: It is becoming increasingly digital and more sustainable. Digital technologies can support and accelerate sustainable development in many areas – be it through data-driven efficiency gains or digital innovations, for example for climate-neutral destination developments, the circular economy and the energy transition.

Opportunities and challenges are discussed at the “walk the talk”.

42 participants attended the last event in this series on 23.10.2023 in Chur. Thorsten Unseld (Digitize the Planet), Pascal Jenny (Arosa Tourism), Morgane Pfefferlé (Travelise), Chantal C. (Responsible Hotels of Switzerland), Claudia Züllig-Landolt (Hotel Schweizerhof) and Valentin Bot (Kartause Ittingen) presented and discussed the extent to which digital solutions support sustainability efforts.

The following findings were summarized:

Virtual planning and digital information (virtual tours, interactive maps)

– Booking and reservation systems (access to sustainable accommodation & experiences)

– Smart destinations (data on visitor flows, resource use and environmental impact)

– Information and awareness-raising campaigns (dissemination of awareness-raising content, tips for environmentally friendly travel and success stories)

– Community engagement and cultural exchange (direct exchange between travelers and local communities)
