Welcome, Lower Saxony Nature Parks
We are very pleased to welcome the Lower Saxony Nature Parks as a new member of Digitize the Planet.
With their membership, our network gains a strong partner that brings together the interests and expertise of 14 nature parks. Together, they cover about a quarter of Lower Saxony’s land area and are committed to protecting diverse natural and cultural landscapes as well as promoting sustainable recreation, environmental education, and regional development.
The nature parks are places where nature conservation and recreational use come together directly. Hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities are just as much a part of these landscapes as sensitive habitats and various protected areas. To ensure that visitors can experience nature responsibly, reliable information is needed—increasingly also where excursions and tours are planned today: in digital maps, apps, and tour portals.
This is precisely where we find many common points of connection. Digitize the Planet provides information on protected areas, rules, conservation objectives, as well as temporary closures and current notices—in an open, structured, and machine-readable format. This allows digital applications to incorporate this information and deliver it directly to people out in nature.
The nature parks in Lower Saxony have been working together on cross-cutting issues since the 1980s. A dedicated coordination office supports them in exchanging experiences, implementing joint projects, and further developing their collaboration. Digitalization also plays an important role in these joint activities.
We are therefore particularly looking forward to welcoming the nature parks in Lower Saxony to our network in the future, learning from one another, and working together to make nature conservation information more readily available digitally, thereby supporting modern visitor management.
