Berchtesgaden National Park
Berchtesgaden National Park is the only German national park in the Alps. A diverse, unspoiled mountain landscape has been preserved here across a vast area, which has been under strict protection since 1978. Within the protected area, nature is allowed to follow its own laws without human intervention – to the amazement of us humans and to preserve biological diversity for future generations, in line with the guiding principle of “letting nature be nature.”
At the same time, the area is also a traditional cultural space: for many centuries, alpine farmers from the surrounding valleys have brought their cattle to the higher pastures in summer. This is how the alpine pastures came into being, which over time have developed into a valuable cultural landscape with great biodiversity. The maintenance and preservation of these alpine pastures is also one of the important tasks of the national park.
The park has been a partner of the association for many years and supports us with technical expertise and participation in pilot projects.
National Park statement on membership:
It is important to us to support the association, as the digitization and global communication of nature conservation information are essential components of visitor management and contribute to nature-friendly recreational use.
