Data Integration of 526 Nature Reserves in Rhineland-Palatinate

Over the course of a 4-month project, the Digitize the Planet team digitized the nature reserves in Rhineland-Palatinate. Funding was provided by the Rhineland-Palatinate Nature and Environment Foundation, using funds from the Glücksspirale lottery.

A total of 5,806 rules were created for the digitization of the 526 areas. There is a general ban on entry for 36 protected areas; for the remaining 490 protected areas, there is an average of about 12 rules per area.

We are now collaborating with many federal states at the ministry level or through the State Office for the Environment. The authorities rely on our standard and support the integration of data at the state level.

Thanks to a grant of €34,084 from the Rhineland-Palatinate Nature and Environment Foundation, the DtP team was able to complete the data integration in a very short time. Upon completion of the project, the platform account will be handed over to the relevant authorities for future management and data maintenance.

This collaboration demonstrated how outsourcing data integration to external partners—in this case, our association—can be an effective solution for quickly making nature conservation data available in digital form.
