Status – Digitize-Platform
Progress in the digitization of protected areas in Germany
The digitization of protected areas in Germany via our platform is making remarkable progress. In a country with almost 25,000 protected areas, we have already successfully integrated 18,4% of these areas into the Digitize platform. This equates to an impressive 4.475 (May2025) areas currently managed by governmental organizations.
Success story and future steps
We would like to continue this success story and are delighted to be able to present the Digitize the Planet project at the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation’s NaturschutzDigital 2025 in Leipzig in May. This event provides a valuable opportunity to discuss and drive forward the next steps for the digitization of nature conservation information together with the authorities.
European perspective
Our aim is to raise the project to a European level. In this endeavour, our first Digitize Dialog INT will take place on 8 May. Over 80 people from 13 countries have already registered for this groundbreaking event. This shows the great interest and willingness to collaborate across national borders.
We are looking forward to the upcoming discussions at European level and the opportunity to further advance the digitization of protected areas in order to improve and optimize the protection of our valuable natural areas.
