Saxon Switzerland National Park Becomes a New Member of Digitize the Planet
We are very pleased to welcome Saxon Switzerland National Park as a new member of Digitize the Planet.
Through its membership, the national park is sending a strong message in support of digital nature conservation, open protected area data, and modern visitor management in the digital space.
Saxon Switzerland National Park is one of the most visited national parks in Germany. To enable people to experience nature while protecting its valuable ecosystems, reliable information is needed where people plan their excursions and tours: in digital maps, apps, tour portals, and other digital services.
The Saxon Switzerland National Park explains:
“Through our membership, we are officially and long-term supporting the work of Digitize the Planet. As one of the most-visited national parks in Germany, it is particularly important to us to enable people to experience nature without endangering its precious ecosystems. For effective visitor management in the digital space, the free digital availability of protected area data is essential—this allows visitors to be made aware of the protected area and its rules through as many channels as possible.”
This is exactly what Digitize the Planet is working on: making information about protected areas, regulations, and current notices available in an open, structured, and machine-readable format so that they can be viewed and utilized in digital applications.
We are very pleased that Saxon Switzerland National Park is now officially joining us on this journey for the long term.
At the same time, this membership serves as a positive example for many other protected areas within the National Natural Landscapes network. More than 140 national parks, nature parks, biosphere reserves, and wilderness areas in Germany stand for experiencing nature, biodiversity, and the protection of our natural resources.
