New input mask for protection purposes

Next level in digital nature conservation

One goal of our current funding project NUDGE is, that we want to provide an answer to the question of why we adhere to rules in nature.

With the extension of our input mask (beta version), it is now possible to supplement the Digitize the Planet datasets on rules with information on the purpose of protection (flora, fauna, habitat) in order to display them later on digital map services and portals.

Potential of these premium datasets for protected area information:

1. conservation purposes can be communicated in the right context

2. promotion of acceptance for environmentally friendly behaviour

3. contribution to environmental education through the digital communication of interesting information that is digitally prepared for visitors’ smartphones

With the new open beta version, we would like to test a hybrid concept. The selection and input of conservation purposes is partly based on the wiki principle. The default selection includes species from the Red List, including their German and Latin names and the degree of endangerment.

At the beginning, the protected area community adds a picture and a general description of the species, which is accessible to everyone but can be edited by all users.

The specific information on the particular behaviour of the species in the area or the associated rules, on the other hand, is specific to the protected area and is entered and published individually for each protected area.

In order to achieve the best possible results and to link the data to the connected portals, we rely on the help of our partners from the protected areas and authorities.

We kindly ask you to start entering data for the protection purposes.
